About this practice

Brett and Meg Gonsalves opened the practice in San Andreas in October 2016 and grew it to handle the bookkeeping, accounting, consulting and payroll of more than 100 cannabis entities around California, moving to a Sacramento office in August 2018. Tax returns are not prepared in-house: three Santa Cruz CPA firms are contracted to file them, while state and local sales tax is prepared and filed by RHB quarterly.

The books run on Xero and payroll through Gusto, with weekly reconciliations, expense allocations, budget creation and tracking, and quarterly profit and loss statements and reviews. Clients are trained on the system so they can take an active part in their own finances. Small to medium-sized businesses are the stated focus. When one grower's bank accounts were shut down, the firm called his CPA and lawyer and took point on forming a new entity to handle banking, with accounts working again within a day.
