FinancialForce (Now Certinia) Review: Services Finance Built on Salesforce

FinancialForce is now Certinia, a services-business ERP and PSA built on Salesforce. What it does, what is known about cost, and who should look elsewhere.

FinancialForce is now Certinia: the company announced the new name in May 2023, and financialforce.com redirects to certinia.com. This FinancialForce review covers what the product is today, a set of services-business applications built natively on Salesforce: professional services automation (PSA), customer success, and a finance suite now called Financial Management Cloud. It suits consulting, IT services and software companies that already run on Salesforce and want project delivery, billing and the ledger on the same customer records. Companies that make or distribute physical goods, or that do not use Salesforce, should look at a general-purpose ERP instead.

The short version: Certinia is a services ERP for Salesforce shops, and its strength is joining delivery, billing and accounting in one data model. It publishes no prices, and no independent price range is available, so budgeting starts with a sales conversation.

What happened to FinancialForce

Certinia’s own account ties the announcement to Salesforce World Tour NYC in early May 2023, where it said “FinancialForce had changed its name to Certinia, a name that aligns better with our expanded suite of solutions.” The press coverage Certinia lists on its site is dated May 3, 2023.

Two ownership events followed. In July 2023 Haveli Investments and General Atlantic agreed to buy the company, a deal Reuters put at nearly $1 billion. In November 2024 TA Associates invested, and Certinia said at the time that Haveli “will retain a majority position” while General Atlantic and Salesforce Ventures “will continue to hold meaningful stakes.” The company is based in Austin, Texas, and its CEO is DJ Paoni.

Then the finance product was renamed. In its Spring 2025 release Certinia “renamed ERP Cloud to Financial Management Cloud”, explaining that “Services businesses don’t manage warehouses or production lines.” Anyone searching for FinancialForce ERP today is looking for Financial Management Cloud.

What Certinia does

Certinia sells several product lines rather than one ERP. Descriptions below are Certinia’s own.

Financial Management Cloud

This is the accounting system. Certinia lists seven components:

  • Accounting and Financial Reporting: the general ledger and reporting “on a single system”.
  • Revenue Management: automated revenue recognition.
  • Billing Central: subscription, usage and hybrid billing.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: forecasting from live data.
  • Procurement: spend control and supplier management.
  • Order and Inventory Management: order visibility and fulfillment.
  • Financial Management Analytics: trend analysis on financial data.

The inventory component exists, but Certinia’s own positioning is services, so a business whose main problem is stock, warehouses or production is outside the design brief.

Professional Services Cloud

The PSA side covers services estimation, resource management, project management, services billing and services financials. This is where a consulting or IT services firm estimates work, staffs projects, tracks delivery and bills for it.

Customer Success Cloud and Value Engineering

Certinia also sells a Customer Success Cloud, for customer success management, and a Value Engineering product. Certinia lists both as product lines of their own, alongside the PSA and finance products.

Built on Salesforce

Certinia says it “is built natively on Salesforce” and describes itself as “the pioneering ISV on the Salesforce platform since 2009.” Certinia says its applications use “the same customer records” and user experience as Salesforce itself. The practical point is that sales, project and billing data sit in one data model rather than being synced between separate systems. The Salesforce platform’s own attestations also sit underneath Certinia’s; Certinia lists ISO 27001, SOC 1, 2 and 3, FedRAMP High and PCI-DSS for Salesforce.

AI: Veda and Agentforce agents

Certinia brands its AI as Veda, which it calls “Certinia’s suite of agents, intelligent actions, and agentic workflows.” Its first AI agents, a Staffing Agent and a Customer Success Agent, shipped to early adopters in the Summer ‘25 release and were “built on Salesforce’s Agentforce platform.” Its PSA pages now also list estimation, resourcing and service delivery agents and a Project Assistant. On July 21, 2026 Certinia acquired Moonnox, which it describes as “an AI-native services delivery platform”, to extend Veda. These are vendor descriptions of recent releases, and the first agents were offered to early adopters, so ask which agents are generally available and included in a quote.

Security

Certinia states that it maintains SOC 1 Type II, SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3 attestations, and shares its security documents, including SOC reports, a penetration test report and standard questionnaires, through a Whistic profile.

Certinia pricing

Certinia publishes no prices. Its product pages offer a demo, and every quote goes through sales or a partner. No independent source publishes a price range for Certinia either, so any figure you see without a named source should be treated with suspicion.

What a quote will need to settle:

  • Which clouds you are buying. Financial Management Cloud, Professional Services Cloud and Customer Success Cloud are separate product lines.
  • The Salesforce platform. Because Certinia runs natively on Salesforce, ask in writing whether the Salesforce platform licenses your users need are included in Certinia’s price or must be bought from Salesforce separately. Certinia’s product pages do not set out those licensing terms.
  • Implementation. Certinia works with “a trusted network of Certinia certified partners”, so the implementation partner’s statement of work is a second cost to compare alongside the subscription.

Limitations

  • No published pricing. There is neither a list price nor a credible third-party range, which makes early budgeting harder than with vendors whose partners publish estimates, such as NetSuite or Sage Intacct.
  • Tied to Salesforce. The architecture that makes Certinia attractive to Salesforce customers adds a platform dependency for everyone else. A company that does not use Salesforce would be adopting it along with its ERP.
  • Built for services. Certinia’s own positioning excludes warehouses and production lines. Manufacturers and distributors are better served by a suite such as Acumatica or NetSuite.
  • Partner-led rollout. Implementation runs through certified partners, so project quality depends on choosing the right one.
  • A moving product. Two renames in three years, an ownership change and an AI acquisition in 2026 mean older documentation, reviews and partner material may use names and module lists that no longer apply.

Who Certinia is for

Certinia fits when:

  • The business sells time and expertise: consulting, IT services, software implementation, tax and audit.
  • Salesforce is already the system of record for customers and opportunities.
  • The pain point is the handoff from sale to project to invoice to revenue recognition, not inventory.
  • The finance team is large enough to justify an enterprise implementation with a partner.

Look elsewhere if you move physical goods, have no Salesforce investment, or need a published price before starting a sales process.

How Certinia compares

  • Sage Intacct: a finance-led system with a dimensional ledger, strong on multi-entity consolidation and revenue contracts. It has no CRM of its own and connects to Salesforce through an integration rather than running on it. Sage publishes no prices, but named third parties do; see our Sage Intacct pricing page and Sage Intacct vs NetSuite.
  • Oracle NetSuite: a full suite with financials, inventory, orders, projects and CRM on its own platform, which suits product companies and multi-subsidiary groups better than a pure services ERP. Prices are quote-only, with reported figures collected on our NetSuite pricing page.
  • NetSuite alternatives: our survey of the mid-market field, including Acumatica, Business Central, SAP Business One, Rillet and Campfire. Rillet lists Salesforce among its integrations and is built for subscription and usage revenue, so a software company that needs finance only may compare it, though Rillet’s own positioning leaves out project-heavy services work.
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central: the choice for a company that runs on Microsoft rather than Salesforce, with published per-user prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is FinancialForce the same as Certinia?

Yes. FinancialForce announced its new name, Certinia, in May 2023, and financialforce.com now redirects to certinia.com. The finance product once called FinancialForce ERP, later ERP Cloud, was renamed Financial Management Cloud in Certinia’s Spring 2025 release.

How much does Certinia cost?

Certinia does not publish prices, and no independent source publishes a price range. Cost depends on which product lines you license, how many users need them, whether Salesforce platform licenses are included, and the implementation partner’s fees. Ask for all four in writing.

Do you need Salesforce to use Certinia?

Certinia is built natively on the Salesforce platform, so it runs on Salesforce rather than alongside it. Certinia’s product pages do not spell out which Salesforce licenses a customer must hold, so confirm with Certinia or its partner whether platform licenses are bundled into the quote.

Who owns Certinia?

Haveli Investments holds a majority position, according to Certinia. General Atlantic and Salesforce Ventures also hold stakes, and TA Associates invested in November 2024.

Is Certinia good for small businesses?

Certinia positions itself for services businesses running on Salesforce, sold through a partner-led implementation, and it says it has more than 1,400 customers in over 30 countries. A small firm without Salesforce, or without a finance team to run an ERP project, is better served by a small-business ledger such as QuickBooks Online or Xero.
